Welcome to Year 1!

Mrs Clark, Miss Wilkinson and Mrs Kirman welcome you to Year 1. We also have Mrs McMillian, Mrs Braid, Mrs Norris, Mrs Anderson and Mrs Owens working with us this year. We hope your child has a happy and successful year with us. If you have any concerns or issues that you need to speak to us about, please do not hesitate to come into school.

School Topic for Autumn Term

Our whole school topic this term is 'Oh I do like to be beside the seaside' and Year 1 will be focusing on geography and history objectives. We will be going on a trip to the seaside and will look at how seasides have changed over the years. We will also be looking at the weather and how it changes over the year.

Take a look at our planning rubric to see what else we will be covering this term

Homework and Remarkable Readers

Everyone in Year 1 will be given one piece of homework to complete every week. This will either be some maths, literacy or topic based work. This will be given out on a Friday and needs to be back in for the following Friday. Children who do not do their homework will have to complete it during Golden Time.

Our school policy regarding reading practice is to read at home 5 times each week. Children should bring their book bags EVERYDAY so that reading challenges can be checked and books can be changed when needed. Children who have not read at least 5 times a week will miss some of their golden time.
