At Welholme Academy, we are delighted to be embarking on our Eco-Schools journey.

Eco-Schools is a global programme engaging 19.5 million children across 101 countries, which makes it is the largest sustainable schools programme in the world.

For over 25 years Eco-Schools has been empowering children to drive change and improve their environmental awareness through the simple Seven-Step framework to achieve the international Eco-Schools Green Flag award.

Our eco-committee is made up of committed representatives from throughout our Welholme Academy community who meet half termly to work on implementing our action plan which was based on our environmental review of the school.

Our sustainable goals for 2024/25 were to focus on three areas: litter, global citizenship and our school grounds. Children have taken part in several initiatives to meet these goals, including litter picks, tree planting, organising a new pen recycling scheme and celebrating Earth Day by raising funds for the World Wildlife Fund.

Throughout the year the eco-team have worked hard to raise awareness of environmental issues and involve the wider community by organising assemblies, working with the local council to create an anti-litter social media video, a whole school anti-litter poster family homework competition and writing to our local MP. We have also taken part in several national campaigns as a whole school including, 'Cut Your Carbon', The Great Big Walk and Wheel and Keep Britain Tidy's Great Big School Clean.

Our Eco-Code which was designed by the Eco-Committee to reflect values we feel are important at Welholme Academy:
